The X2000 was built by Asea Brown Boveri (electrical parts) and Kalmar (mechanical parts) of Sweden originally for the Swedish government owned SJ rail line. Caught by Don Jilson while it stopped at Union Station in Washington D.C. during one of its US test runs, the sleek styling was a novel and startling departure to many from traditional passenger locomotives. The train was equipped with tilt technology which allowed it to reach faster speeds on traditional old main lines with tight curves. |
