Album Info: | Interchange at Palmer
Four railroad companies come together at Palmer, Mass. CSX (Conrail & NYC) runs east and west thru town, the New England Central (Central Vermont) runs north & south, and the Mass Central (Conrail/NYC) runs north east from Palmer to South Barre, Mass. Additionally, Amtrak runs the Lake Short Limited in east & west every day, as well as the Vermonter with 2 moves across the NECRR/CSX interchange daily. Most of the following photos were taken from the parking area for a nice restaurant, which operates in the train station structure in the S/E corner of the diamond. While CSX provided the fast freight service thru town, the two short lines filled in with some interesting interchange moves. /DL
